It is the desire of the MILLS Child Development Center to
provide a safe and secure service in a Christian environment
and to provide Christian education experiences which will
meet children's developmental needs socially, spiritually,
physically, intellectually, and emotionally through a professional
curriculum. We are concerned about the total child and how
he relates to the people and the world around him or her.
We want to enhance the child's spiritual, emotional, physical,
mental and social growth. A child learns through play, modeling,
and repetition. The concepts we try to instill in the children
are: God, Jesus, Bible, Church, Family, Self, Others, and
the Natural World. The Development Center is operated as a
development of the Church. At the Center we feel we will make
a difference in a child's concept of God and the world around
him or her and how he or she relates to those concepts.
Integrated Faith And Learning
At Mills Institute we offer a demanding academic program
with a distinctively Christian character for boys and girls.
It is a place where you can feel confident that the principles
of respect, honesty, community, creativity, and faith that
you have instilled at home are reinforced on a daily basis.
Mills Institute is a place where your children can feel confident
that they are receiving the best possible preparation for
college and life, while enjoying the most important years
of their development. Here the atmosphere, opportunity, quality
of curriculum, diversity of student and philosophies all combine
to distinguish us from other public and private independent
schools.
Body, Mind, and Spirit
God has placed the very important responsibility of training
children in the hands of parents. A critical time to permanently
affect the hearts and minds of children comes in their earliest
years. The Institute can assist parents with this training
process. One of the purposes of the Institute is to incorporate
a student's studies with a relationship with God and family
values. Working with the home, provides a safe and loving
environment in which to learn and grow.
The vision of the Institute is: "To create a nurturing,
caring, enthusiastic environment that will allow students
to grow socially, spiritually, and intellectually." The
Institute is a Christian School commissioned to provide high
quality and affordable education which ministers to the whole
child - body, mind, and spirit.
Highly trained and experienced teachers demonstrate God's
love through their commitment to students while encouraging
excellence and touching hearts, both for now and the future.
Learning Through The Five Senses
Throughout the Holy Scriptures, we observe that one of the
Lord's great methods of teaching is directed at the individual
senses of humanity, this method of the learning process is
best illustrated by how the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ,
taught his disciples. Time and time again, He used sight,
hearing, smell, taste, and touch to communicate truths about
life and our marvelous God. Therefore, the Mills Institute
will be constantly challenged to include creative teaching,
methodology that communicates the learning process through
the five channels of the student's senses.
Curriculum
The curriculum used in the Development Center is selected
to meet the needs of each age level. Along with the age appropriated
curriculum we also learn through play time, songs, nature,
story time, outside play time, sharing time, and much more.
The classrooms will stay with the child-teacher ratio. The
High Reach Learning Curriculum is used with the Toddlers and
2 years old. The A - Beka Curriculum is used with the 3 -
7 years old.
Nursery
MILLS CDC is a spacious, cheerful, and modern Center. The
clean and safe environment provides the backdrop for learning
and loving. All personnel are screened and must demonstrate
superior character, patience, and ability with God-given love
for babies.
The staff's goal is to provide each baby with security, and
equally important, provide all parents with security that
their most precious child is being well cared for in the Mills
Institute.
Pre-School
Preschoolers are placed in small classes according to their
appropriate age level. They experience both an open and closed
classroom environment. The open classroom introduces children
to making individual choices while working with blocks, books,
puzzles, and dramatic play. The closed classroom teaches Bible
stories, Scripture memory, the alphabet, numbers, shapes,
and colors. Use of all the child's senses is incorporated
into the daily curriculum.
Children are taught that they are a special creation of God.
They are treated with respect and learn to respect each other.
The child's first experience with school is enjoyable, while
providing a solid educational foundation. Communication with
the parents is aided by progress reports, Parent-Teacher fellowships
and conferences.
Primary Grades
Primary grade classes are structured to assure that students
are focused on achieving at their highest level. Students
are instructed on memory scriptures, phonics, writing, reading,
and mathematics each day. Our small class sizes allow for
individual instruction as needed.
The staff continues the loving discipline utilized through
out the development experience. Children are taught that God
created them as special individuals. Students are treated
with respect and learned to respect others.
A child will be enrolled and permitted to attend after the
following items are completed:
1. Completion of registration forms and fees.
2. A health and physical form signed by licensed physician
to be renewed every two years.
3. A Florida Certificate of Immunization (a new one each time
child receives another immunization).
4. A copy of child's birth certificate and social security
card.
5. Payment of first week pre-payment.
6. Sign and return emergency medical treatment form and nutrition
form.
We need records on all children no matter the length of
time stayed each week. This will enable us to better understand
and teach them. These records are also a part of our licensing
requirements
